The pilot of Harness the Sun, an e-learning resource developed by Homesglen TAFE and funded by the National VET E-Learning Strategy, will take place from late April to June 2012.
Harness the Sun supports the delivery of the three units required for accreditation for Grid Connect Photovoltaic Systems, ie

Competency Code
Competency Name
UEENEEK125A (previously UNEENEEK025C)
Solve basic problems in photovoltaic energy apparatus
UEENEEK148A (previously UEENEEK048A)
Install, configure and commission grid connected photovoltaic power systems
UEENEEK135A (previously UEENEEK035C)
Design grid connected power supply systems

There are eight RTO's participating:
  • Skills Tech - TAFE Queensland
  • Electro-Training Institute - Townsville, Queensland
  • TAFE SA - Mt Gambier Campus
  • Chisholm TAFE - Victoria
  • Holmesglen TAFE - Victoria
  • South West Institute of TAFE - Warrnambool, Victoria
  • Skillset - Bathurst, NSW
  • Global Sustainable Energy Solutions Pty Ltd (GSES) - NSW

To participate in this pilot, the RTOs are required to organise the enrolment of their own cohort of learners and have a suitably qualified Trainer/Teacher available. The support they will be given includes:

  • a free copy of Harness the Sun – an e-learning Toolbox containing the relevant three units
  • a face-to-face induction which will focus on both the content and e-learning delivery strategies
  • online mentoring support throughout the pilot again with a focus on both content and e-learning delivery
  • technical support to install and customise the resource.

An induction for those participating took place at Holmesglen TAFE on Friday, 20 April 2012. Participants were given an overview of the resource itself, an insight into how it was developed and the delivery intent, and participated in discussion on how its use could be use to support currently delivery models, and how those models could be expanded to include other tools and technologies as part of a blended e-learning delivery strategy.
